Goal Setting/ Personal Development

Are you feeling your going nowhere?

Are you feeling that your are under achieving?

Are you feeling you’re stuck in a rut?

Are you lacking direction?

Do you want to change?

Well guys, if you answer yes to these questions, there is no doubt in my mind that you need to start setting goals.

Goal Setting

You have probably never set any goals in your life or at the very least not big enough goals to force you into action. You see guys, there is no denying but it is goals that give you a target  destination.

It is through goal setting that you will get that direction and from there that sense of purpose. It is that sense of purpose that gives you the motivation and the drive to reach those goals you have set.

What is a Goal?

Quite simply put, goal  is your personal objective that you want to achieve in any aspect of your life in a unit of time.

Importance of goal setting

Goal setting is one of the most important things you will do in your life to become successful., irrespective of what area you have chosen. All successful people make goals and set targets for all aspects of their lives.

It is from goal setting that you will start aiming at these targets. Once you start reaching and achieving these goals you will start gaining momentum and start going in the direction you want to go.

Big and small Targets

When you are setting goals, you have to get a piece of paper and sit back and take stock of your life;  think of the big picture first, write down your goals and look and visualise them daily.

An example

Where do you see yourself in 15 years? Think of all the aspects of your life all the areas. Ask yourself where I want to be in 15 years financially for example.

So you have made up your mind up to be earning 200k in 15 years we will say; that is your long-term goal.  Once you make your long term goal you have to work back from there. We have the end target now therefore we have the direction in which we are going.

Break down your larger goal into smaller ones

Now we have to break down the end goal into smaller goals in order to reach our main objective. We have to put simple little stepping stones in place, so that we can reach our destination. In the previous situation, we chose a financial example which was to be earning 200,000k in fifteen years.

Therefore we have to assess our position now. Let’s pretend we have just joined an organisation and we are currently earning 30k a year. In order to move towards our target (earn 200k a year),  we have to start looking at the different opportunities within our company or even the industry.

We have to see what skill and knowledge we need to acquire to reach that particular level of 200k. These tips apply to everyone irrespective of their current situation. From this simple example we see how other little goals start to appear and need to be put in place to achieve our ultimate goal.

Goal setting gives you Purpose

By setting the goals you are developing a sense of purpose and for this sense of purpose you need to feel you are progressing. Therefore, in order to reach your final destination,  start with the end in mind and break everything down into stepping stones

Plan your years,months,weeks,days

Departing from these goals you have to start planning your years, months, weeks, days. And review your progress. Also make your goals small enough to achieve each day as you will start gaining that momentum belief confidence; to reach the next mile stone you have set down, ultimately leading you to your big goal or target.
